WW1 is a subject not heavily discussed in American schooling, I had no idea that there were naval engagements outside of the north Atlantic waters. What a pleasant surprise, more theaters to learn about.

Shinano was a terrible carrier. She was 64,800 tons and could launch 47 aircraft, the rest were all in basically warehouse storage. An Essex class carrier was 30,800 tons and could launch 100 aircraft. The Imperial Navy should have never built any of the Yamato class battleships. In their place the IJN could have had 7 more Shokaku class carriers.

Maybe the support to the Soviet union was a mistake. Of course nazi Germany had to be crushed, but it might would have served the western allies better to put all their efforts into their own war capacities instead of strengthening Stalin. It worked in the end, hitler was defeated after all, but Stalins Empire became the biggest threat to them almost the moment the war against the nazis was won, and now, a new axis of russia, China, North Korea and Iran is again the biggest threat to the western powers, likely starting ww3 with a combined attack against the US and its allies in europe and South East Asia.
